Lisbon, ??, San Sebastion and Soria

Thinking about a May 2011 trip - we have friends in Soria (about 2 hr. north of Madrid) so several days of our trip will be there - I would like to spend the remainder of the time in San Sebastion and Barcelona but my travel companion wants to visit Portugal. I don't like to move around alot. If we spend 5 nights in Lisbon and do some day trips to? will that give us a pleasant experience of Portugal. Or would 3 / 3 be a better idea - 3 nights Lisbon and 3 nights Porto? Nazare?

I realize that Portugal may be worth at least 2 weeks but for this trip we will be there a max of 6 nights. OK fire away or post some constructive advise. Thanks!

One SIL just spent a week in Soria and she loved it.

You could do 3 nights Lisbon, one night in between , like Coimbra, and two nights Porto. It's a lovely country.
While driving north, stop off in Obidos, Alcobaca and Nazare.
Or go to San Sebastian..another wonderful place to visit.
Can't go wrong.

I think you are not getting responses because you are boxed into a situation. Portugal is 500 miles from San Sebastian and they are usually hard to join on the same trip.

There is an overnight train from Lisbon to San Sebastion and vice versa so it really is pretty doable. I suspect I am not going to give Portugal the attention it deserves but doing both is a compromise with my traveling companion. I think I have decided to spend 5 nights in Lisbon with day trips to Sintra and Estoril and hope that gives us a nice taste of the country. Maybe next time we will explore further.
