Lisbon in January - help! - what to wear?

Hello All
Planning a weekend trip with DH this 20-23 January in Lisbon and Nazare. Any ideas on what to wear? Presumably it will be warmer than our native Dublin but by how much? Can I assume that an umbrella is a must-pack? Should I bring a down-filled jacket or coat or would I simply expire with the heat if I did?

Ideas please wise Fodors folk? What are Lisbon natives wearing right now?

Like anywhere the weather can vary from the norm. Winter in Portugal usually brings rain and Lisbon will have very cool if not cold temps...but then the sun can be out and it can reach 17 degrees. How about checking BBC weather or weather.com just before leaving so you know what the forecast is?

I would want to travel prepared, meaning an umbrella and a coat that would keep me warm.

We were in Lisbon and Nazare in January 2014. Bring an umbrella and wetgear. It doesn't get very cold during the day - certainly it's warmer than Dublin, but it can rain and feel a bit miserable. Don't forget trusty shoes - those cobblestones can get slippery in the rain.

In Nazare we noticed that a lot of the restaurants weren't heated and locals ate wearing their coats! It gets quite chilly at night so down-filled coats are advised. Even in Winter the Portuguese like to socialise outdoors - they just dress for the weather - and sip their beer outside.

Also in Nazare when we visited in Winter the funicular to Sitio was out of action - I don't know if that happens every winter but it was a nuisance. If you are planning to visit Sitio, Sunday lunch in Casa Pires (beside the church) is very popular and well worth booking.
