Sintra, Belem area, former Expo92 area, Alfama, Gulbenkian Museum, Chiado, Barria Alta. Consider a budget of 20 euros. Only God knows the weather in October. Better alone than in bad company.
Have fun

Daniela,,
It's hard to suggest things when we don't know much about you, I loved the Gulbenkian, the Design Museum and did a few walks with Lisbon Spirit. I liked taking the trams an just walking around Lisbon. I also found the street art fascinating.
I wrote a blog while I was there which might be helpful to you

Hope this helps, have fun!

Lobo_mau gave you a list of points of interest. However, we do not know what you love and why you wants to visit Lisbon, so we can not give you detailed information.
When I visited Lisbon I first read the touristic guide, then I made a list of what I want to visit, found in internet the opening hours of each museum, etc. After I made a schedule by days, I come to Fodor's for more advices and I received a lot of very good and helpful information.
So, I suggest you to make a preliminary plan and then I am sure that you will receive here a lot of help.

No need to take a taxi to Barrio Alto, you can take the metro from the airport.

We enjoyed seeing The Tile Museum and Gulbenkian Museum. Day trip to Sintra.
Perhaps another to Obidos. Don't miss visiting Belem and the Jeronimos Monastery.

Don't miss pastéis de nata, at the famous shop in Belén, out of this world!
Lobo Mau days it all, but also a must is Amorino, for the best gelato.
Enjoy
