Linz, keep it, or ditch it?

I have been reading up about Linz, and also have recieved some info packets about it, and it looks like one boring city. I bring this up because I have not been there myself, and I am sure some of you had and could help me decide on whether or not to go there on my trip. Thank you.

I'd ditch it. There are so many better towns in central Austria -- Hallstatt, Gosau, Melk, St. Florian, etc.

I think that's what I plan to do, unless someone really can defend the city and find it's worthwhile traits. It just seemed like a useless stop.

Linz is an industrial city. If this is the first time you have been to Austria, I would recommend visiting other cities - Vienna, Salzburg, and Salzkammergut area.
