Most shops and department stores will feature Limoges dinnerware. You will find all types and all prices. However shops tend to make them on order, so it may take weeks for delivery...

Check out Fodors or Frommers guidebooks--I believe that Rue Paradis has many stores which have discounted fine china--they're discontinued patterns and perhaps "seconds" but they're supposed to have really good deals. BTW, Bernardaud is one of the best names in Limoges and makes absolutely incredibly beautiful china.

If you plan to travel outside of Paris, there are factories and outlets in Limoges, France (a couple of hours south of Paris) that are geared to shipping a full dinner service. The prices in Paris stores are comparable to the U.S prices PLUS shipping PLUS duty, so if you're buying service for 8 or 10 or 12, you're in for sticker shock. Price Limoges in your own country so that you can comparison shop. You might want to get a catalog or brochure of the patterns and pieces available so that you can make your shopping list.
When you ship it home, GET IT INSURED to the max - $8000 of broken porcelain would be an awful way to remember your trip.
Good luck - let us know how you do!

I collect antique Limoges. Limoges is not a dinnerware company...it is a region. The companies are Bernadaud or Celalene or Raynaud or Haviland, etc. Go to a book store like Barnes & Noble or Borders and look at a book of Patterns of Limoges China(s) and go to china shops or upscale Dept Stores and view some patterns and check out prices ahead of time. Tank your calculater with you and figure in the aforementioned taxes and shipping. Sometimes, it is better to let the store assume the "risks" of breakage on your order than to go to the factory. I went to Rue Paradis and walked all through the Baccarat Museum and shop and decided that while there are more patterns available through their shop, it is better to buy at home. Have patience and the local home merchants will appreciate your business while you establish a relationship with them. Then when you need a replacement or something, they will be in your pocket. Pick out a souvenir piece of china in Europe such as a comport or a decorative piece then match the pattern when you get home. Be sure it is available outside of Limoges, however.
