Conde NastTraveler had an article on fishing in Lake Como either this past spring or summer The author went fishing with local fishermen. There was no mention of pollution so hope it isn't a problem in the middle part of the lake.

Great report. Very helpful information for our tentative trip to this area next fall.

It's also interesting that mountainhippie has posted the identical post on 180+ threads today. Must be a slow day where he/she is.

I will just mention here that I just received a new book entitled, " The Terroir Guide: Food and Wine: The Italian Riviera and Genoa."

The author is David Downie, who has written a well-regarded book on the cooking of Rome as well as Enchanted Liguria, which I mentioned above.

The book looks promising:

I just got a tip on a local restaurant in the Lake Como area, in Ossuccio, near Lenno.

Thought I would pass it along and save for next time.. Mountain and lake dishes, and the famous "polenta uncia" discussed above:

CMC: Thanks!

It is so difficult to wait!

Here is a tip, try to get your hands on a copy of Fred Plotkin's book, RECIPES FROM PARADISE, LIFE AND FOOD ON THE ITALIAN RIVIERA. (Sadly out of print, but you can find used copies on Amazon; this is a book you may want to own)

There is a lot of interesting text along with recipes and photos. By the time you are ready to leave, you may have mastered the pansoti with walnut sauce!

And in your spare time, we can begin discussing the NEXT destination!!

For me that would be Bermuda. Where are you headed next?

The suggestions are much appreciated!

CMC: I have a "big" trip coming up in late winter--to Burma, Shanghai and Hong Kong. I hope I will be able to take another European trip in 2010--I was thinking of Puglia but have not made any plans yet..... Spain (Catalonia??) is also calling my name!
