Well - two live in the midwest and one in suburban California where none have to navigate public transport, major cities, 5-terminal airports, etc.
In fact if I remember - before the last trip, two or three of the group had never been on a public bus (other than maybe school buses when they were kids) nor any sort of subway/tube/metro/light rail. You gotta remember, where most of us live - on vacation you either drive or fly somewhere and then take a shuttle bus to the hotel, or to the car rental office to pick up a car and then drive.

Well, it would as you cannot walk in baggage claims area from outside or another terminal.
Not like in the US, baggage claims are always within the "sterile" airside part of the airports in Europe.

Cowboy - if you read janisj's great TR you will see that they were all arriving at the same terminal at the same time, and her plan was for them to meet in the baggage claim area. Admittedly, that would have been a drag if one of the flights was late, but that wasn't the case.

Yep - cowboy, before you try to figure this out logically, you need to read the report . . . But fair warning it is looooong and there is a LOT you may have a hard time believing. Gospel truth, every word is true!

Yep - me+one at T-3; two others at T-1. I've just about decided that two drivers is the only practical option.

honest. Some could navigate London w/o a second thought)

cowboy - there are two trips under discussion here. The one described here: http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...in-england.cfm - where everyone flew into the same terminal, although on different planes, and the one janisj is currently planning, where they fly into different terminals.

"even if they have to sit outside in the pouring rain until you arrive!"
One advantage of St Katharine's marina is that even people who can't find their backside with both hands ought to be able to see the Starbucks. But I don't know janisj's friends....

Ahem. I am no fan of cell phones, in fact I am an anti-fan, but isn't this precisely the kind of situation in which they are worth their price? If you don't want to pay international rates, or buy a SIM on arrival, then buy one ahead of time from somewhere like http://ekit.com/ekit/home/ - and if you can't get your phones unlocked, look for cheap unlocked quad band phones on ebay or amazon, they don't need to be smart for this.
