Les Baux (Cathédrale d'Images)
A lot of people have been to Les Baux de Provence, the lovely ruins and small village near Saint Rémy de Provence. But I think that many of you pass up the other "attraction" of Les Baux -- the Cathédrale d'Images.
Okay, it's kind of cheesy, but I still go there every few years when I am in the area (currently I am at the Festival d'Avignon). Today, I took some pictures which might interest you into actually taking a look for yourselves one day: http://tinyurl.com/2wbyfx5

This is great- thank you for sharing! I visited Les Baux and the Cathedrale d'Images when the exhibit was a focus on Van Gogh. I thought it was one of the best "attractions" I have ever experienced. I loved it and like you, I will return whenever I am in the area.

Terrific, kerouac. Thanks for such really useful info. This was already on my list for next summer and it's nice to know how long it may take, what to expect, etc. (Thankfully, less time than I thought it might, so I think we can squeeze it in.) It's the kind of thing my teen would really like. Hopefully, next year's show will be just as well-done.

Jobo, the festival d'Avignon is the largest performing arts festival in the world. While the "official" festival only has about 60 programs this year, the unofficial festival has 1100 programs. The festival lasts most of the month of July.

We were on a river cruise and signed up for Les Baux and Cathedrale (the Picasso show). I was surprised at my reaction - I loved Le Cathedral (even tho I am not a Piocasso fan) and thought Les Baux was the cheesey attraction. Shops, shops and more shops in a town that seemed non-functional (can you tell I am not a shopper!)I now findly remember Le Cathedral as one of the better attractions I've seen redently on my European travels.

We, too, saw the van Gogh exhibit in 2008 - fabulous. I'm a real van Gogh fan (my Mastercard has "The Starry Night" on it) and seeing his paintings projected on the huge limestone walls and even the ground was very moving. In fact, at least two of the images did "move" - crows flew over the field! If their other exhibits are anything like the van Gogh one, it's definitely worth a visit to Le Cathedrale d'Image.

Used Les Baux as a touring base for a few days a zillion years ago. If you stayed in a hotel in the old town, there was no parking charge. The ruins were quite nice after the end of the day around sunset when there was no entry charge and no tourists. We bought nothing in the shops. Did not know what the cathedral was, thought it was a church and didn't go. Oh, well, next time.
