Leaving Tomorrow !!
Just posted this in the Europe Forum but not specifically under Italy so I am re-posting.
Well, the time has finally come and we are leaving tomorrow for a 2 week trip in Italy. We are spending one week in Montalcino at the Hotel dei Capitani. We are renting a car and plan on going to several of the small towns in the area, where we have never been. Then we will take the car, drop it off in Firenze and spend 5 days there at our all-time favorite hotel Casci. Next, train to Rome for 2 days before returning home, staying in the brand new Best B&B Pantheon. I intend to write up a detailed trip report as I travel and so will have it ready to share soon afer we return.
Ciao for now.

Have a beautiful time in Italy Flame! Your trip sounds wonderful and I will be looking forward to your trip report. Collecting business cards is a very good idea IMO, I forget the name of a restaurant two hours after I leave it! Wishing you a comfortable flight and lots of fantastic Italian food.

Don't forget to turn the water off at the tap for your laundry in case rubber hoses spring a leak, turn down hot water heater, turn off toilets in case they run, and, most important, have a good time!

I wish you the best trip ever! One word of advice that came in helpful for me was to pack a small zip-up duffel bag in my luggage (Walmart $8-10). Throw your dirty clothes in it on the way home for extra room in your suitcase for souvenirs. I didn't think I'd need it, but boy am I glad I had it!

As well as the business cards, if I see them, I keep the restaurant bills, which usually help me to remember what we ate at each restaurant, costs, etc. It's amazing how quickly these details fade from the memory!
