leaving in two days-restaurant suggestions please!

Hi Foderites! We are leaving for a trip to Germany and Switzerland in two days. We are a family of four(my parents and then my brother and i (18 and 16 yrs. old). Last time we were in Europe, we kinda just ate wherever there was an english menu. I have been given the tedious task of finding restaurant recommedations on Fodors. We dont want to eat at really nice, gourmet-type restaurants. - probably want to spend 60-80 dollars for a dinner, total. I would be appreciative of any suggestions. We will be in the following cities:
Germany: Beilstein, Cochem, Mainz, Laindau, and Rothenberg
Switzerland: Grindelwald and Luzern
Thanks for any suggestions!

".. have been given the tedious task of finding restaurant recommedations on Fodors.."

Hey, just typing a post to get your info isn't 'tedious'...!

But in case you don't get suggestions for all your stops, I'd head for a Borders bookstore or similar and get a Zagat-Europe guide. That's better than not having anything to help you.

Also, although somewhat more 'tedious' - you could type in each of your cities into the search box and troll for suggestions that way.

In Lucerne, I highly recommend the Syrtaki Greek restaurant on Morgartenstrasse which isn't too far from the train station. Great quality food at reasonable prices.

We were just in Beilstein a couple of weeks ago and can vouch for the following: Altes Zollhaus and the Haus Lipmann Hotel. Also, we had the best warm apple strudel w/vanilla ice cream and whipped cream at the Haus Burg Metternich! All of these can be found on the street running along the river.

I can also vouch for the Hotel Haus Lipmann restaurant. Side outside overlooking the river on a nice day.

Hey Kinsey,

Wow, you are a lucky gal to be taking a trip to Europe with your family!

I haven't been there, but I have read that there's a great pizza place in Grindelwald. I think it's called Uncle Tom's Hutte?? Anyone ever been there?

Have a great trip!

There's also a great Italian restaurant right next to the Des Balances Hotel. We never ate at a "typical" Swiss restaurant in Luzern because the ones that were recommended were outside our budget.

How refreshing. Post starts out sounding a bit annoyed. People get on her case. She responds that she's already done a lot of digging on her own. Some come through with some useful recs. She not only takes them but reports back on her experience while she's there. A true fodors success story. Enjoy your trip kinsey 17 and return to this forum often.
