Le Meridien, or Hilton Plaza

Hi,
I am visiting Vienna in April and my first choice for a hotel was Konig von Ungarn but I am not sure I am going to get rooms there. My other choices/possibilites are Le Meridien, which I can get for a fairly low rate, or Hilton Plaza. I need somewhere central as I prefer to walk as much as possible and I only have two nights.
Do any of you out there know whether Le Meridien has some really bad rooms that are offered at a low rate? The rate I am getting on one website is way lower(and it includes breakfast!) than on any other sites and I even contacted Le Meridien central reservations and they said they couldn't even offer me rooms on those dates! So, should I be suspicious of this low rate I am being quoted?
And if I go with the Hilton Plaza will I be near city centre?
Any advice very welcome!
thanks
D

We booked a very low internet rate on the Meridien website and had a very nice room. We were really happy with the location and everything was clean and new. As for the Meridien showing no availability I have seen that happen in the past where consolidators still have rooms. Check with the hotel via email to see if they have an arrangement with the company if you are unfamiliar with the consolidator.

Hi Detraveler,
Thanks for replying. That's a great idea about emailing the hotel-- I am going to do it right now!
I think I am going to go for the Meridien if I can get it rather than the Hilton-- the feedback seems to be more positive on it.
Thanks

Hope you can get the Le Meridien- a better location than the Hilton.
Le Meridien opened about one year ago after extensive renovations to an older building. I would doubt any bad rooms in the hotel.
Regarding the Hilton- you do know that three Hiltons exist in Vienna. The Hilton Plaza( on the Ring- but not the best location, Hilton Park ( reopened last year after extensive renovations) and Hilton on the Danube. ( not a good location - must bus or taxi everywhere) but a nice view of the Danube.

Hi Aibo1
Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, I contacted the Meridien directly--as suggested by another poster--to verify the web agent and they replied to say they did not know the agent and that they couldn't guarantee that the booking would be accepted by them! This means that the great rates I had got at both LeMeridien and Hilton are now void, so I am going to have to start again!
I am posting up a request for information on another 3 hotels so if you know anything about any of these 3 perhaps you could reply to that post??
Thanks so much
D
