Some years back we lived in Holmforth and planned to go there to see the tour.
Just found out that Holme Moss is closed from Friday evening. What's worse is that our bikes are in Scotland not Lytham and so we can't take them over to Yorkshire to cycle to the route.
I am not sure about the warnings of how busy the roads will be, these things always seem to be over-hyped. There again I still have horrible visions of Harrogate on The Yorkshire show day.
I love the story of the knitted jumpers, things like that make events like this and I really do hope local businesses do well out of the extra visitors. In Lytham, we were treated very badly by the organisers of "The Open". Most of the visitors were shipped from park and ride car parks straight to the doors of the golf course. Few made it to the town and we suffered a very, very quiet week with beautiful sunshine.
The TDF whole event will rightly be a great advert for Yorkshire!

That's champion, Morgana.
sadly I am out rehearsing for a concert all day tomorrow, so I am going to miss the fun. What time are they due to get to the finish of the first stage? so long as it's not before 4.30 pm I might just manage to catch it on the radio as I drive home!

I'm watching at the moment as they head past Kilnsey Crag to Kettlewell. I hope no-one else is watching. We like being in a minority of visitors outside of the summer holidays. I don't want anyone thinking "ooh what a beautiful place, let's go there". Stay with York or the Lake District.

When we woke this morning we noticed the usual car noise has stopped. We walked into Otley seeing only bicycles and walkers. It was as if the automobile has stopped working.
Otley was "en fete" as I have never seen it before. Everyone calm, lots of noise as the bikes came through, with a big street party including giant screens in the main square, a couple of churches and the local arts centre.
Drink flowed but no bad behaviour, while the TV views showed so many people in the middle of the nowhere loving it.
What an event, sorry if you missed it.
Tomorrow we do it again.

One of the best days of my life - I was presented to Prince William, Harry and Kate when they made a 'surprise' visit to West Tanfield today as part of the Tour. Husband is Chair of Parish Council hence the presentation. The Royals were lovely - I chatted to Kate about her green outfit!
I was so nervous, but so excited too. Then we had all the excitement of the Tour itself passing through this tiny little village. Brilliant day. I'm still all giddy! I've even been on the news!

Morgana, that's terrific. What a thrill!
I was able to get home in time to see the last hour or so and it was so exciting. i loved it when Kittel was presented to them 3 times, for each of his jerseys - they were all so obviously enjoying themselves. The only blot on the horizon - Cav's shoulder which looks to be b....gered. Fancy Froome getting 6th place in a sprint! apparently it's got something to do with the order they roll out in tomorrow.
Well done Yorkshire and roll on stage 2!

What a wonderful day for you Morgana! I'll look out for you on the news later lol!
I took the day off work today to sit and sog in front the telly! Loved it all, and was amazed by the vast crowds who turned out; Cote de Buttertubs was spectacular - and now I definitely have to visit Yorkshire (shamingly for someone who lives in England I've never made it further north than Sheffield).
But poor Cav, it looked like a fractured collarbone at the time, but according to the latest news on the internet - from the Daily Mail no less! - he is due to take his place tomorrow. I hope that is so.
Froome was impressive too. Looking forward to another day on the sofa tomorrow - with even more stunning scenery to tempt me to venture north...

Still can't believe it. We knew about their proposed visit for a couple of weeks but were sworn to secrecy. Gave me enough time to buy a new frock!
I keep getting messages tonight from friends who have spotted us on the news. They seem to think it very funny that we are described as 'local dignitaries'.
So proud they came to our little part of North Yorkshire. Harry got the biggest roar from the crowd.
So, these two 'local dignitaries' are currently slumped on the sofa with a cuppa, watching the highlights. Yorkshire looks absolutely beautiful.

Fab for Yorkshire as well. I saw the day taped delayed here at home and the weather looked absolutely beautiful and the crowds - enormous. To bad about Cavendish -- It did look a bit that it was his 'fault' - so close to the finish
He won the 1st stage of the Tour of California through my home town in May - but I missed it this year since I was in England at the time.
Just goes to show you what we try to explain about British weather . . . as soon as the coverage of the Tour finished, they went to taped delay of F! qualifying at Silverstone. Maybe 120 miles apart as the crow flies -- Yorkshire was glorious and warm, Northamptonshire was pouring down w/ rain.
