laundromat in Florence?

Florence is the midpoint in our trip and I'm hoping we'll be able to do a quick load of laundry while we're there. Does anyone know where I might find a laundromat? We're staying in the Centro Storico - hopefully we won't have to go too far!

Thanks for your help.

Hi Jane, there are many Laundromats in Florance throughout the city. Just don't go in August(they are all on vacation) Two of the Italian words that I remember are 'Lavenderia' and 'Queiso'. We found many closed Laundromats within walking distance. One of my favorite remembrances is that we found several gentlemen talking outside of a tobacco shop and mentioned the words laundry and they spent 10 minutes discussing the various Laundromats and whether they were open or not. Finally, one of the men got on his motor scooter and left. He came back in about 8 to 10 minutes and proceeded to guide us to one that was open.

Al--do you mean "chiuso" (closed)?
I wonder if this could become an answer to "How do I meet local people?"--carry a bag of dirty socks.
