Last Question - Palio

So I don't feel like trying to cram the track and stand all day to see the horse race. Is it still fun to be in Sienna that day? I.e. walk through the square early then walk around the city, have dinner etc? Can you catch any of the merriment that way?

Mary - I'm sure you'd catch the merriment

I was once there the weekend before and saw a group of 'sbandieratori' praticing. Great fun ...

Is it hard to get a hotel during the Palio?

Can you still enjoy Siena then?

Thanks

Well, the place will be packed, so I'm not sure you'll be able to get into anyplace for dinner, but yes, just walking around will be a treat, and you're sure to catch SOME of the show.

scooter, I hope you don't mean get a hotel for the July or August Palios this year - I'm sure they've been booked solid for months and months now.

I just found some last minute tickets advertised for balcony windows over the palio. No price indicated but I'm sure it will be very high. www.siena-info.net
