My wife and I are in the Canterbury area. We are checking our car in at Heathrow Airport on Saturday evening. Does anyone have a good last minute suggestion of something we must not miss, that's within the driving area? Today we went to Dover Castle - it was really fascinating. We have driven through the Cotswolds, and been to Bath, Stonehenge, Salisbury, Avebury, Windsor and Oxford.

Chatham Dockyard may appeal, it's on the way back.

if you like gardens, I would suggest taking yourselves off to Sissinghurst; as well as Vita Sackvile-Wests' garden, there are a number of lovely villages in the area.

if you prefer the sea, you could head for Rye and Winchelsea.

We really enjoyed Rye and Battle (of Hastings).

Sissinghurst if you want to go a bit south. Or Hever/Chartwell to the north side.

If you like gardens -- RHS Wisley is the best BEST-EST ever. Just off the M25 junction 10 and quite close to LHR.
