Isabel, re Hotel Marignan, how much of a mess in the halls is there and how does this affect your stay? Also, what is the situation coming back late at night. Do they give you a key to the front entrance? I understand the reception closes at 11:00 pm? Im asking because I just booked a room for end of December.
thanks!

Just chiming in to add that husband and I stayed in Paris a few years ago mid-winter for 10 days and had a lovely time. We had been there a number of times before, though never for that length of time, and still we didn't run out of things to do.
Spent lots of time walking through interesting little neighborhoods, checking out small museums we'd never had time for before, spent one whole day at Versailles, another in Bercy, did an overnight to Rouen by train. It was just a delightful time.
Stayed in an elegant small hotel in the Latin Quarter, came back most afternoons as the light faded (it does get dark early at that time of year remember) for a bath and rest, then went out to a nice dinner. Very romantic - and we've been married almost 40 years.
We tried many small restaurants nearby, had some wonderful meals, were always welcomed warmly. You'll have such a good holiday! I envy you.
