We are planning a trip to the Dordogne region in late April/early May and want to visit Lascaux II as well as other prehistoric caves in the region. I am struggling to find where to actually book a date at Lascaux II and get solid information on other caves with prehistoric art. Any advice is most welcome.

We went in September 05, just drove to the town about 9 AM, booked an English tour at 11 AM.
Enter "prehistoric" "cave" in the Fodors search box and you'll see many previous posts about other caves.

That early in the season they may sell you the tickets at the site, as they were doing when I ws there i October. You do not need to book ahead. What kind of information are you looking for? There is a ton of information here on this site. To supplement that, buy a good guidebook; one I thought was great was Cadogan Guide to the Dordogne and the Lot. Rough Guides also do a good Dordogne guide.

We booked 12 tickets the day before our tour (in July) in a tourist kiosk at the top of Sarlat.
