OLN's coverage has been exactly the same throughout the tour, as far as I can tell.

Live 9:30-11:30 eastern (last 2 hours)
Highlights 3-5 and 9-11 (the highlight show isn't much different from the live coverage)

CBS had a one hour special this Sunday, which was a recap of all the stages. As far as I know, that's it in the US.

Agree w/ other posters: the web site is FANTASTIC you can listen to LIVE streaming audio in the morning at your computer. Last year I had to close the door to my office, but people could still hear me screaming during that 1st mountain stage when Lance gave Jan "The Look".

Also agree RE: the scenery, and yes, the US coverage shows all those spectacular views of France. What a country! The food, the wine, the climate, the mountains,...too bad some of the French have the bad taste to boo Lance.

I've been following everyday on OLN. Impressive coverage. Also see www.cyclingnews.com great coverage there as well.

I'm going to be in Spain during the Vuelta a Espana...in Nerja (Costa del Sol region, I believe), when the Vuelta is in that area.

I need advice on the best way to go out there and watch some of the race live and in person...preferably on the mountain stages (5,6 and/or 8). Any advice would be great, as I've raced for several years and have been watching American cycling in Europe develop from afar for a long time...I want to see it in person. Thanks.

Hi Miriam, I liked reading your post of 7- 2001. I love watching Le Tour de France. The scenery is beautiful. But that is secondary to the fantastic skills of the athletes competing. You are "right on" in praising Lance. His feat alone is remarkable - but under the circumstances he has had to face, it is amazing. I wish he would receive more recognition in the press and TV than he now does.
Do you have any suggestions for a visit to France for The Tour for their next meeting?

Hello, Miriam. I'm back in Germany and loving the excellent coverage on both the European sports channel and German stations. When we were living here some years ago, near the French border, the tour came right through our village and it is AMAZING how quickly they pass by. The route is posted on some websites, but I don't know how much before the actual race... would love to see Armstrong. What a hero he's become to so many...

I am also greatly enjoying the OLN coverage of the race, watching Lance in yellow and seeing the beautiful countryside. We are hoping to go next year and see Lance fly through some of those beautiful villages in the Pyrenees.

I actually wrote our local paper (SF Chronicle) about their disappointing coverage of Lance and the Tour. I got a response (surprisingly) and their explanation was that Americans just aren't as interested in bike racing as the Europeans. What a shame. Most Americans are missing out on a truly amazing story about someone I consider an American hero. I'm not usually fond of thinking of atheletes as "heroes", but Lance qualifies in my book. Both because of his inspirational battle to come back from cancer and his incredible sportsmanship. Go Lance!

We just got back from Italy and was very lucky to watch the coverage (live and taped) of the race. Being a native Texan and having lived in Austin, I am extra proud of our "local" sports hero.

He is the fourth person to win it 4 times in a row. Think that he'll go for a fifth?
OK, at the risk of being yelled at for asking a non-travel question, here it is: Does anyone know why Bob Roll (Role?) was not one of the OLN commentators for the coverage of Le Tour? He was excellent at the Giro, and I must confess to being curious. I missed him.

He was there with OLN but only doing small pieces here and there. I like his quirkiness too.

The commentators I saw this weekend were already saying he should be able to tie those few with five wins for next year's "Tour de Lance."

How long will Lance race? I saw two interviews on OLN and was touched by his comments. He said he dreads the day when his son asks him not to go ride. Now his son is enjoying it but Lance foresees a future when his kids will be tired of his hours spent training. In another interview he said there will be a time when no one will want to interview him and he won't have his name in the papers and he will just be a father and a cancer survivor, and that will be enough.

I hope he does it two more times so he can put his stamp on the Tour forever. But he is obviously thinking about life after the Tour de France. Regardless, he's probably the greatest athelete of our times and a great sportsman as well. Viva Lance!

Lance's contract goes through the 2004 season with US Postal. If he stays with it and I believe he will, that would put him in line to win 6, assuming he stays healthy and as fit as he is now.

He's 30 years old. The oldest man to ever win a tour was 36. I think he is still hungry for this challenge and will ride next year for certain.

The question is what young gun will be coming along who may knock him off the winner's stand. Could it be Heras, his team mate? I won't be surprised if Heras signs a big contract with another team.

I'm hoping Lance stays with it and I hope he wins 6 Tours of France.
