There are a trillion places to stay in the Lake District. We have stayed, twice, at The Grange at Grange Over Sand...it is a very luxurious looking hotel, but was one of our less expensive places to stay...as you enter the Lake District area, you cannot miss it on the right on a hill. We have also stayed right in Keswick, but didn't like the congestion.

Hi Emily

There are tons of nice places to stay in the Lakes, indeed. If you tell me what you're looking for... ie, price range, what kind of room, etc., I'd be happy to recommend one.

My husband and I love the lakes, and used to go walking up there all the time when we lived in Manchester. A few of my easy favourite hikes, not knowing your level of experience would be walking around Lake Buttermere (4 miles, if my memory serves me right), and one up to Aira Falls.

The TI in Keswick has numerous books and single page pamphlets about walks in the area. My husband won't let me go in there anymore <g>

Feel free to email me if you need more info... I'll check back here soon too.

Cheers,

Anastasia
www.greatbritaintravelguide.com
Three suggestions for you to look into.
Borrowdale, two very good hotels, about 5 miles south west of Keswick. The Hotels are Borrowdale Hotel, or Lodore Falls Hotel.
Next the village of Grasmere,Wordsworth
country, and finally the area around Ambleside.
All of these areas are relativley peaceful, and good bases for hikes and walks.
