Lake Como, Lake Maggiore, Lake Garda - which one?

Husband and I will be celebrating our one-year anniversary in Italy, with our last four days of 2-week visit in the Lakes Region. Any recommendations as to which Lake to stay at and where to stay? Have seen some good postings on Como and Bellagio here, any additional thoughts? We will not have a car, walking a bit is not a problem, would like decent accommodations, preferably with view, under $150.
Sandra, Without a car your choices become either Como---with Bellagio being
the heart---or Stresa on Lake Maggiore.
Both are accessible via Milan by train
and both are lovely resort towns.I have
been to both several times and cannot really choose between them. Go to these
sites for a preview and accomodations.
www.stresa.net
www.fromitaly.net/bellagio

You do not say when. If August I would
opt for Stresa--less crowded.

Thank you Bob, we are planning on being there in August. I understand that crowds will be very heavy, hoping Aug 5-8 won't be too bad. Where have you stayed in Stresa?

Let me add another to the mix... Lake Lugano, which is actually in Switzerland, but just over the border from Italy. I have been to Como, Garda, Maggiore and Lugano and would pick Lugano. Incredible. You can easily visit Maggiore and Como from there.

Beth-
I'm curious to know more. Why do you so highly recommend Lugano and where did you stay? How far is it from Como and Maggiore? How accessible is Lugano for us via train (we'll be coming from Portofino area)?
Thanks for your thoughts.

Sandra, I would chose Stresa at Lago Maggiore. We were there a few years ago and I thought that it was breathtaking. The vegetation, the mountains, the water...so beautiful. There are boat rides you can take to visit other towns/islands. Lovely little restaurants, quaint shops. I have been to Lugano, it's nice, but for me, Stresa is where you should be for a romantic anniversary
