Lake Como car ferry - do they sell out?

hello...
were planning on a day trip to Switzerland and plan on coming back by way of Varenna - having dinner and taking the car ferry to Cadennabia. According to the time table, there aren’t many ferries without a connection through bellagio. Can anyone tell me if the car slots fill up? Thx!

If there a reason you wouldn't just drive down the eastern shore of the lake to Cadenabbia?

Yes - we want to stop at orrido di
bellano, Spagno lago di mazzola and Castillo de Vezio. It’s the only day we have to go to that side of the lake...

Fair enough. I assume Lago di Mezzola is more or less a drive-by. Orrido di Bellano is definitely worth stopping/exploring. The views from Castello di Vezio are fabulous and the birds of prey are amazing to watch (if you can be there when they are released). If it's raining, I would reconsider the stop.

I've only approached the Castello on foot and by bus, and I see that the Google directions to the Castello drop you at the parking lot at the bottom of the hill. There's probably a bus stop nearby, but if you want to park at the top of the hill, follow the directions on the Castello's website.

According to the ferry timetable, all of the car ferries from Varenna to Cadenabbia stop at Bellagio. I don't know if the tickets for vehicles sell out, but I would definitely stop at the ferry office and buy tickets for either the 21:25 or 23:05 ferry BEFORE going to dinner. If your trip is in August or early September, esp. on a weekend, I might even stop and buy tickets before visiting the Castello.

If tickets for the car ferry do sell out before you get there, the drive to Cadenabbia is shorter if you go back to the north end of the lake and then down the western shore. It would take less than 90 minutes.

this answer is ideal. Grazie! We’re going mid August, on a Monday.
