hi-just returned from there on saturday!
we spent our last 4 days in rome staying at la residenza and had a wonderful time. the location of the hotel is perfect, right off one of the nicest roads in rome, via veneto on via emilia. the hotel is very nice, and the staff really friendly and helpful (the staff here was the nicest of all the hotels we stayed at in italy). you can easily walk to all of the sights...the spanish steps, piazza di spagna etc. one day we walked to the trevi fountain, the pantheon, campo de fiore, piazza navona, the roman forum, and the colosseum. but the metro stop (barbarini) is only a few blocks away if you want to take that (we did to the vatican).
the room was a decent size with a nice big bathroom, and everything was very clean. the only drawback was that our room (#26) faced out onto via emilia
where there is a bar and it was quite noisy when it was closing time (1-2am). you may want to request a room on the other side of the hotel. there were these cute little verandah/terraces to sit on throughout the hotel. breakfast was so-so lots of choices-yogurt, breads, cereal, friuts, meats and some kind of eggs all of which was of mediocre quality. any more questions, let me know!

Jennifer,

Thank you for your response. It was very helpful. We are also spending our last three days in Italy there. We will be dropping a rental car off at the airport and coming back to the hotel. Do you have any suggestions on how to get from the airport to the hotel?

Take the express train to Termini station. It's fast (about 1/2 hour)and inside the airport complex. Go straight to the taxi stand, bearing right past the hawkers, and there should be little trouble. If you are concerned about taxi fares, ask the nice folks at the official tourism stand in Termini what the fare should be. We stayed in Rome, then took the train back to the airport to rent a car to drive north.

nikki-glad you are dropping the car off at the airport, not the train station-it took us well over an hour to find the train station coming into rome!!
john's advice above is good to get back into the city after leaving the car off.
if money is not an issue, and you have lots of bags you can get a taxi back to rome for *about* $40usd and the ride takes about 25 min. (airport to la residenza)
there was a great restaurant right around the corner from the hotel called la scala on via di s. isidora (off via veneto) phone#06/48.19.264. if you like steak, my husband had the best steak we've ever tasted!
