I've been there, but don't have much help for you, as I stay with relatives. Klagenfurt (Austria) is a nice, small city. As a provincial capital, it has a "Heimatwerk" store. They are a good source for authentic crafts and such. Look into "Hochhosterwitz" nearby, a really terrific castle you can visit. I'll probably think of more, later.

We spent two weeks in the general area last summer and are going back again this summer (we were closer to Knittelfeld than to Klagenfurt, however). If you will have a car, I strongly urge you to take a pleasant drive up to the village of Seckau. It is a beautiful, non touristy, small town with a working monastery and a lovely little hotel (the Hofwirt) across the street. Go up on a sunny day, have lunch in the hotel's outdoor garden (excellent food and great cappuccino), walk around and take in the clean air and scenery, and it will be one your best memories. If you're an athletic type, you can do grass skiing in nearby Gaal (quite challenging--a lot of Austrian skiers train there in the summer). Gaal also is home to a VW Beetle museum--pretty funky and a fun place to poke around. On certain Saturdays, VW Beetle fans from all over drive up there to party. <BR>BTilke (Brussels)
