Karen and Penny's great Ireland adventure (trip report)
#41
Next trip: probably Eastern Europe - Prague, Krakow, Budapest, Tatras. Then maybe farther afield: southeast Asia (Vietnam, Angor Wat, Thailand), then Nepal/Bhutan/Tibet, then Galapagos/Machu Picchu, then Scotland, Chile, Hawaii, China, Morocco, Turkey, Egypt, Greece... (maybe not in that order)... sigh, so many places... (and how will I EVER find time - and money -to return to some favorites... like IRELAND(!), Norway, Germany, England, Paris)...
Life is short - but grand!

Just got back June 21st and reading your trip report makes me want to start planning my next visit.
Really have meant to get beyond Ireland (I don't count the 2 1/2 hour layover in Gatwick) but I just never sem to make it. Six of us were planning a French, German, Swiss, Italian, Spanish and Andorran Two week extravaganza in spring of '02, but the other four got scared off by 9/11, so we went back to Ireland, instead.
We first went in Apr of '99, then took my wife's parents in June of '00. We returned in April of '01 for our 30th anniversary, and again in Feb of '02. This June we took our daughter and her husband (their first visit).
All that by way of saying that your information was useful and valuable to me (and I do all the planning and driving), so you should realize how tremendously helpful you have been to all the first timers out there. Good job, good trip. Your sense of humor and enthusiasm mark you as an excellent visitor. Thanks.

Itallian - thanks for your kinds words. And also to the others of you who responded! It means a lot to know you found it helpful, and maybe even entertaining! As I saw in one of the other posts... this board is definitely addictive!

Great report. Been reading a little more, each time you had a new segment. Makes me almost wish we were going back this year as well. Time to break out of a pattern though, so this year is set for taking a fresh bite of our own list (which looks a lot like yours!)
Thanks for sharing your trip!

Yes, great trip report-I really enjoyed it. I've made 7 trips to Ireland with another possibly before the year ends-my mother lives in Co. Roscommon Ireland. I never, ever, get tired of going to Ireland. And, I still have so much to learn. So, your trip gave me new ideas too!
I'm a B&B addict. I say addict because I love trying out new ones-and usu. stay at a new one each night or maybe 2 days (thought I don't always recommend that!).This is for the "travel" part of my trip-not the "visiting mom" part of the trip
Anyway, thanks again for the great information and fun reading!

Patti,
You and I should talk! My mother-in-law lives in Ireland (Newbridge, Co Kildare) and I'm a fan now, too. I love reading the boards and finding new B&Bs to go to, too. I'd love to hear about some of yours if you are willing to swap stories...
Write me!
Cheers,
Wendy

Karen:
Great job on your trip report. It was a pleasure to read. Those long days in the summer really do allow you get a lot in and it sounds like you had a fantastic time.
Patti:
My family was from County Roscommon and it seems that I have a living relative there because someone had cleaned the tombstone of my great great grandmother shortly befor I visited a couple of years ago. Our family was from the Strokestown area. We are going to try and visit this may and hopefully search out a person to do some more permanent work on the headstones of our family.

This is a very old thread, but I am finally getting around to posting some of my older photos online. If anyone's interested, here are pictures from this trip...
