Just wondering....Am I the only one who just does not like the new format?

Well I'd almost forgotten I'd posted this - this is the first time I've visited Fodor's since then. I guess I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who isn't happy with the new format ~ and I do think I've gotten used to it. Bottom line is that I just don't like it. I'd love for the 'powers that be' to revert it back to the old format. I used to not miss a day visiting here - actually I'd visit several times a day. And that goes way back to the days before registration, and to the days of Elvira, Wes Fowler, et al. I've learned so much about travel to Europe from all the posters and miss the ease of reading their trip reports, tips and advice.

I still dislike the new format, especially the blue titles for posts; much harder for me to read. I also don't like the way the titles spread across the screen; they were easier to scan in the previous formet. So I'm not reading/posting as much as I used to.

I really dislike clicking on a thread and having to scroll back down from the first post to get to the next post I want to read. And I agree with TravMimi about the "Next 25 topics." What's the point of having to scroll past the first 25 again??

I'm trying to digest what the point is here. The poster may have visited the site every day, but has only made thirty six [36] comments in the last seventeen [17] months. When the 'poster' says, 'Im glad i'm not the only one', there are 196,000 fodor passwords and now we have a few handfull's of the same people that made previous complaints. I'm not saying that many people did not have reasonable complaints, but get on with your life. So JJ, you may not be the 'only one', but you are one of the few. iris1745/dick

I don't think it's that small a number of people who still have some problems with the site. I have improvements that I would like to see also, and from what I can ascertain, there are lots of people who agree.
I am still using it, but there are certainly aspects that I find more cumbersome than before. I agree that "next 25 posts" would be better if it actually meant next 25 posts, but it doesn't, it means the same thing as "all activity" at the top of the column.
And I still would be happier if there were more posts than 25 listed on the page with the discussions, as I do tend to look at the first 25 only. Those are the ones that keep coming up as I read the threads, and it is most convenient just to look at them as they are on the page I'm reading.
Yes, I have read the way other people avoid this. No, I don't find that as user friendly. After getting that longer list on the "view all activity" page, I still am brought back to the page with the 25 every time I read a thread. I think it would be less awkward if there were more threads on that page.

Nikki; You use the site frequently. Respectfully, I want to suggest that at the end of the post when you use the 'view all activity', just click on 'older'. It's at the end of 'view all activity' on the right. You don't go bact to 25, but to the previous days posts, be it 25 or 125. iris1745/dick

Nope, don't like it, but I'm an old guy. Seriously, I didn't see a need to change a wonderful site, that now, IMHO, just doesn't have the feel of the old one. Do you know what I mean? As if we were a family of sorts, but now, just full of "those others".

That's a big assumption. For all you know, there could be 195,950 Fodorites that also find the site difficult and aren't posting about it. Maybe it's just one or two that think it's an improvement.

I was extremely critical and disparaging about the new format at first, albeit silently so.
Kudos to Fodors, Katie et al for bearing with the flak and making appropriate and responsive changes.
I, too, stayed away for about a month, but have returned and found I now enjoy it as before

I am not a fan, but then I haven't really spent much time on it. I used to check every day and sometimes twice, but now I am lucky if I browse once a week.
Did get some good advise just this week, so I will just have to work through it.

I had to laugh when I saw this post. I've not visited Fodor's for awhile, and recently, in anticipation of a "hopeful" trip, I've returned. When I saw the format I thought, "what the _____"! I agree that the ease of searching has decreased; the search function is more tempremental. Does anyone know why the format was changed? I thought it might have to do with attempts at cost reduction, but was not certain.
