Just returned from Greece
Had a great trip to Athens, Mykenos, and Santorini. The reason I'm posting this is to let folks know that alot of people have cancelled their trips due to the war. Everything is just peachy there. If you are looking to save money I would suggest trying to get your accomodation and other Greece travel charges down either before you leave or when you arrive. Things are pretty quiet
there, enjoy.

Mike

Mike,
Glad to here you had a great time. Two friends and I are planning the same itinerary, plus Crete, for two weeks in July. Happy to here you confirm there is no reason to cancel our plans. I can't sign off without a few questions. Did you take a ferry at all? We are supposed to ferry between Crete and Santorini and then a few days later Santorini and Mykonos. If you did, how was it? Also any restaurants that you would recommend? Thanks for any help. Again glad you had a great time.

Michael
Thanks for the message. I will be in Greece from June 10 - July 1 and know that everything is fine there. We have relatives in Athens and Crete and they report that everything is safe and there is no hostility. This is probably the best time to go to Greece if people are indeed cancelling their trips because it won't be so crowded. I hope everyone who is still going has a wonderful trip!

Hi Michael-

We didn't take any ferries, just flew Olympic.

As for restaurants, we had a few outstanding dining experiences. The first was on Mykenos at Maison de Katrin. This was one of the more expensive restaurants we ate at during our trip but by far the best, don't miss it if you can splurge. We also found the best Greek handicrafts store on our trip right next to this restaurant.

Two other memorable restaurants were on Santorini. 1800 is another expensive restaurant located in Oia, great food and a beautiful atmosphere. In Fira, the best food we had was at Nicholas Taverna, the oldest restaurant on Santorini. The food is simple but fresh and tasty, prices are right too.
We made it a point to order a Greek salad at every restaurant we visited, it's amazing to see how each restaurant made a different tasting salad. Even the most mediocre salad we had in Greece was substantially tastier than any salad I've had in the states.

Bon Voyage,

Mike
