Hi Glenn:

We will be in Paris, Venice and Florence
at the end of May (with two nights in
London).

We already have hotels (although I
always like to hear others input), but
would love to know about eateries
especially in Venice and Florence -
(I have a post for eateries in Paris.)
We'll only be in Venice for one night,
and my husband has never been there,
so we'd love a special, romantic,
delicious restaurant (and it doesn't
have to be outrageously expensive!).

Also, did you travel by train?

Isn't is hard to return from such a
wonderful trip?

Carol
[email protected]

I'll be in Paris in July. We (me, my husband, and three other adults) are interested in visiting the D-Day beaches and Mont St. Michel. Can this be done in one day? Should we rent a car for the day? The tours we've seen advertised seemed expensive to us--$180 per person. Any suggestions will be appreciated! Thanks!!

Stacey,
My husband and I went to France for our honeymoon a few years back and we went to Mont St Michel and the D-Day Beaches. Both were great but we think it might be tough to really see much of either in just one day. Mont St Michel is incredible and a must see! The D-day beaches are really something too. My husband was in the military and he is a big history buff too, so he was really impressed with the beaches. I would rethink trying to fit both of these into one day. If you can only do one, I would perhaps recommend Mont St Michel. We rented a car and enjoyed the freedom of it. If you have two days, try both. On our trip we visited the town of Bayeux and saw the beaches in the same day. The town of Bayeux has some points of interest. Most notably the the Bayeux tapestry. Look into it. We fell in love with France. We hope you enjoy your trip as much as we did! Good luck!

In October my husband and I rented a car and went to Normandy and the D-Day beaches and Mont. St. Michel. It is very difficult to see it all in one day. My first response is to get to Mont. St. Michel early, the earlier the better or wait until later in the day. There are usually large crowds. Think of Christmas Shopping, go early or go late. Second response, there is no videotaping in the Vatican, you can take photos.

Stacy,
Whatever you do, please don't miss Le Monte St. Michel. Even better is if you can plan to spend the night in one of the small hotels there. After the tourist groups have all gone and it's very quiet there is nothing comparable!
Hope you'll enjoy it.
Hi Glenn, We are leaving June 24 for a whirlwind 21/2 week trip to Venice,Amalfi Coast,Rome,Florence and flying out of Paris with a few days there. Suggestions for hotels in the 2-3 star range with air and bath. Our 17 yr.son is traveling with us. My husband has been quite a few years ago but our son and yours truley have never been. Any tidbits of advice would be be greatly appreciated! I'm in the process now of looking up hotels on the net and in all the books but personal opinion means more. One place I may book is the Hotel Alessandra in Florence. Real close to the Ponte Vecchio and good price and looks clean with bath and air. I never saw it in any of the books though. I would love to hear from you! Thanks, Cinda

Just a response to a much earlier question about photography in the Sistine Chapel: they do not allow photography of any type inside the Sistine chapel, whether you use a flash or not. However don't leave your camera/video behind...the vatican musuem (the corridors leading to the sistine chapel) are absolutely beautiful, and picture-taking are allowed - incredible art on the ceiling. The sistine chapel itself is only one comparitively small room among many others. Although it is a must-see, you will enjoy the other rooms and will enjoy having pictures of them.
