just curious about the building behind Trevi fountain.....

I've been wondering about this since first laying eyes on Trevi and my parents have asked the same thing when they first saw it in Dec....what's the story of the building that serves as a backdrop to the famous fountain. Was it built with the fountain, was it there before or built after? It appears to be occupied but what companies or gov't dept. would be lucky (?) enough to be able to gaze on that site all day?

I found the name - Palazzo Poli (Poli Palace). It was a medieval palace belonging to a prominent family. That's all I could find. I also found a reference to a luxury suite - guessing you could stay there. Maybe someone else could add something.

I'm pretty sure the building was there first because I've heard reference to how well the female sculptures in niches on its walls were incorporated into the fountain's design.

But I can't cite a source, so here's a grain of salt to take with this.

I recall hearing or reading something somwhere about how the fountain was meant to be on the other side of the building (or maybe the fountain was moved). Something unsual - I remember for some tourist info I read. hhmmmm, I am losing my memory with age it seems

Good, I found a link. Bernini moved it. I am not losing my mind.

nicely done. thanks. Can you imagine staying in a suite in that building? I have trouble with street noise in a regular hotel...

I don't think anyone will have to try to sleep through the roar of the waters of the Trevi Fountain.

The Palazzo Poli houses the Istituto Nazionale per la Grafica - Calcografia.
Exhibitions are also presented there occasionally.

I don't think so. Not unless they've moved it there recently from the Palazzo della Calcografia just up the street.
