Interested in overall impressions. Are Taxi drivers really what people say they are? How was the smog and the attitude of people. We are planning a trip in October and I would welcome any info, or tips. Did you see the light show at the Acropolis, and do you suppose it runs all year? Did you see the theatre at Epidarus (sp?) and if so, do they have a schedule available?
Thanks for the posting.
Hi - I just posted a question re: Meteora. Did you go there as part of a tour or independently. Impressions of Meteora. How long did it take to get from Athens to the Monasteries? Thanks for any help you can provide. b

re: day trip to Cape Sounion.

Recomendation - drive, tour bus, "regular" bus ? how long should one stay to really let the ambience "soak in"? best time of day- Sunset? Any restaurants or bars with good views and/or good food?

re: Nafplion
any favorite restaurants or hotel?

Nafplion seems a good base for day trips to Mycenae, Epidaurus, etc. Is it reasonable to attempt day trip from Nafplion to Mistra (near Sparta)?

Is there any decent "home base" for the western side of Peloponnese? eg for visiting Ancient Olympia, Temple of Vassae, Nestor's palace, etc

General Impressions:
any big let downs?
big highlights?
thyra, i didn't post orig. message but to your question on taxi drivers. What do other people say about them?..i have been to greece 3 times & haven't anything bad to say. On samos i mentioned that being in greece we could converse in english with our driver, but in n.y city that is not always the case.they do drive fast but that's a given in greece. We had a driver on naxos who took us to a beach & wouldn't accept payment until he came back for us. of course he got fare for both ways but he had to trust us more than we had to trust him..

Beejay, shame on me for making such a general (if ambiguous) remark about Taxi drivers in Greece. I am afraid I've let negative impressions from friends who've been to Greece and several of the guide books skew my view of Greek taxi drivers.
Thanks again for sharing your positive experience.

We had only a couple of good experiences with taxi drivers in Athens. First off out of the airport in the afternoon the driver had his meter set at 2 and, even when questioned, blatantly lied about its purpose. At Piraeus not one of 5 drivers was willing to drive to the Plaka at the proper rate, so we took the train instead.

So if they have a bad reputation, they deserve it in my opinion.

Going to Rhodes and Athens in a week.I really feel the food in Greece is best when simple, but do appreciate atmosphere.Wonder if you feel the same way and if you could recommend a restaurant in either place with good food and great atmosphere. Also any memorable experiences you had .
Any info you have on Rhodes would be great. I'll be there for three days in july. What to do, where to eat, what to see, water activities?

The old city of Rhodes is fun-- medieval buildings very interesting and photogenic. We also enjoyed various types of art there (although there is a lot of schlock too!) There is a gallery the name of which I have forgotten where an Italian paints wonderful watercolors of the area. Lindos is interesting too.

Hi! Welcome Home! Thanks for this chance to ask you. I'm going to Peloponese, Metereoa & maybe an island for my honeymoon. I don't want to do a tour. Want a rental to explore at leisure . Please suggest romantic areas/hotels and inform of weather while you were there. Thanks
