Patrick: After reading your posts on this forum for several months, my take on your reply to this thread was that it was written with a humorous tone. However, beanie0300 simply may not be as familiar with your style.
As I was scrolling down through the post, I must admit that I was one of those who "wouldn't even have a clue what country this 'unknown' city might be in," as I have done very little travel in Europe so far.
When I check in on the boards on Fodor's, I usually check the top 50 on the Europe general interest board, and then search by country in preparation for my upcoming trip to Sicily.
Not to digress further, though, thanks for posting your trip report. It has, at the very least, made me curious about Amsterdam.

Patrick, in all honesty, when I read your post I chuckled, thought your game analogy was humorous, and concluded Beanie's feelings would be hurt. You must know at this stage of your life that you do have an antagonist approach. I've observed before that you do love a debate, and I can just picture you rubbing your hands together in glee, bathed in the purple glow of computer monitor, waiting for the outraged reply of your latest target. People are just too sensitive.
Beanie, a lot of people just log on to read general info about Europe, Caribbean, etc., not necessarily researching a trip. It's like picking up a travel magazine and browsing. Don't worry about Patrick; he was definitely not insulting you. He was just making light of what most people would consider a little faux pas. Don't get caught up in the tat for tat with him, as you can't win. Your report was excellent, informative, and entertaining. I enjoyed it, and knew exactly what you were refering to as you mentioned the Anne Frank house in your first center. Would NH stand for New Holland?

Dreamer2, NH is a Spanish (I believe) hotel chain which has been taking over many hotels of mostly 3 & 4 star category all over Europe last few years.
NH stands for Nueva Hosteleria "new hotels" or some say "Navarra Hotels". Not sure which is correct.

Gee, I'm sorry Patrick, I never thought I'd hurt your feelings. I think your posts are intelligent, humorous, and generally very helpful. I just always get images of the various posters from their style and pen names. For example, doesn't anybody else picture Scarlett posting in one of those big, fancy, red hats?! Whenever a frequent poster of travelling with kids writes, I imagine all sorts of chaos going on behind her back as she faces the screen...
And thank you, Kappa, for the info. Are you, by any chance, affiliated with a sorority?

beanie0300- Not that it matters, but I think Patrick WAS trying to be helpful. When I saw your title I thought that you had mis-posted about a hotel in Manchester, NH!
I read the postings for ideas for my next trips. I've very rarely read just one country.
There are many frequesnt posters who could write and write about a trip without ever mentioning the city or country name. In fact, could someone do just that and leave the rest of us to guess?

Just for the record, I don't wear a big red hat lol.
I wish that we could all just assume that a poster means to be helpful, positive and good humored and be surprised if it turns out otherwise. So many times I fill my posts up with smiley faces to be sure that my "humor" is not taken as being mean..it really takes the fun out of trying to be helpful or sharing when one is always worried that the poster might be offended by something that was never intended.
Scarlett w/out the hat lol
