Thank you very much for your great report on my home country.
just one small correction: Gaelic and Breton are very different languages. There are very few similar words (like black, dhu in Gaelic and du in Breton) and that's all. Breton is close to Welsh and Cornish (defunct language?) because Brittany was originally populated with guys coming for there. It is the reason why we have county Gwent in Wales and Gwened (around Vannes) in Brittany, Cornwall in UK and Cornouailles around Kemper.

As Rouelan says, the Bretons were originally British. They began emigrating across the Channel in the 3rd century. Their culture was highly romanized and Christian, although they retained their language, and they began leaving in greater numbers when the Romans left Britain and when the Anglo-Saxon invasions began.
The two branches of the Celtic languages have more in common than a few words. The vocabularies have many cognates, and grammatical features in common. Here is s good comparison of similarities and differences.

A Gaelic speaker wouldn't understand a Breton speaker, but they would recognise many words, just as Spanish and French speakers would.

Thank you for all the linguistic discussion, learning new things every day.
As far as place names, I am a part time resident of Cape Cod, where some names are from Cornwall also, such as Falmouth and Truro.

Don’t know what happened above. In any case enjoyed your trip report. Have always wanted to return to that part of France. Good to see Alan Stivell is still around. Met him in an elevator before one of his concerts at the Edinburgh festival many years ago. Still have his albums that I listen to on occasion

Nikki, last night we finally got around to reviewing some of our imagery from that trip. *Saw your rental building in a few of the yacht shots taken during one sunrise stroll!
Btw, were you folks in Quimper or Vannes during either of their weekend Rose Cancer Walk-Runs? Or likewise, the Hospital closure protest in the former?
I am done. the coastal

Quimper: Sept 22-Oct 5 *hospital closure protest was Sept. 30=a BIG deal with road closures, bus diversions plus a battalion of cops/ the KempeRose Cancer walk was the very next day.
Vannes: Oct 6-20 their equivalent Cancer Walk was Oct. 8; an endless snake of walkers all the way down to Conleau.
I am glad that things went so well for you and Alan on your first post-covid trip.
I am done. the twin travelers
