Jet Lag when Returning Home?
I've been to London twice and I've been able to fight jet lag on the way over but how about on the return home? It seems the jet lag on the return home really puts me under for a day or so. Any ideas on the best way to get over jet lag on the return trip so you're not working in a fog?

Renee- I have more of a problem with jet lag on the way to my destination! I have started taking melatonin on my overseas trips. Melatonin is a hormone that we all have. It will naturally reset your internal clock. I can't remember the specifics of how it does what it does, but I specifically asked my doctor about it, and she said it was perfectly safe to take on occassion. You can buy it in any drugstore- check it out!

Renee, I'm like you, I have more trouble when I come home. It seems the fog lasts for days when I get back, and my sleep schedule takes nearly a week to get back to normal. However, I don't have the problem for more than a day when I go to Europe. On my next trip I'm just going to try to drink a lot more water when I get home and perhaps try Ambien (I think that's what it is called; the people I work with who travel extensively swear by it). But I sometimes wonder if the fog isn't just my mind's way of reacting to the letdown of coming home, whereas the adrenalyn of being in Europe helps evade the fog of jetlag on the front end!

I have more trouble when I get home.<BR>I just always allow myself at least one or preferably, two days before returning to work.<BR>It helps me cope with the post-trip blues as well, gives me a little time to ease back into the routine of mail and dry cleaning and food shopping.<BR>I also take my film in right away so I can get them back quickly.

I don't sleep well on planes so I have trouble going East to Europe. I arrive exhausted. However when I fly West to the US I stay awake the entire flight and go to bed early that night. It makes for a long day, but I wake up the next morning feeling mostly normal.

Maybe it is the excitement of the vacation that keeps the jet lag at bay on the way over. I go to bed the first night & sleep fine then get up & feel right on course. Now, the return home is not as easy... I sleep fine, but I feel tired and feel that I'm in a fog for a day or two, just can't get back in the groove of my usual routine. I guess it could be the "let down" after a great vacation!
