Jeans In London

OK so my mom and I are going on a trip to London in August and well i'm 14 so i love jeans. Would they be ok most places (theater,Museums etc.) or should i buy some more pants?(trousers)What about shorts? I heard they weren't a good idea in London in august. What do u guys think? And also is there a dress code for Harrods?

Harrods does have a dress code. Not exactly sure what clothes are a no-no since I never read those things. Also because I never wear jeans but I think it is about wearing shorts and very skimpy clothing.<BR>It can be warm in August in London and there are a lot of places without a/c.Would you not consider a skirt or dress? THat would be the coolest(as in not soo warm) thing to wear and you can go anywhere dressed that way. <BR>A pair of shorts that come to the knee would be ok for the day time with a nice top, just remember, dressing like a young lady is a good thing <BR>A pair of jeans would probably be fine if it is rainy or cool there, but maybe you could buy a pair of cotton trousers just for the fun of it?<BR>Have a great time, and be sure to keep a diary/journal so you can look back on this trip and remember all the great things you saw and did. <BR>

Rachel<BR><BR>Jeans are ok for Harrod's but if you are carrying a backpack they will make you take it off and carry it by hand in the store. You will love Harrod's.<BR><BR>Jeans are okay for the theater, you'll see every sort of outfit, however, I think a young lady in London, going to the theater, should dress up a little. After all, it is London and it is the theater. A nice pants outfit may be more appropriate for the theater.

Jeans are fine. I thought people in London dress like Americans pretty much.

Let's make this nice and simple and I don't understand why the topic keeps coming up.<BR><BR>You can wear jeans almost everywhere with the possible exception of really top restaurants which are so expensive I wouldn't want to eat there anyway.<BR><BR>I wear jeans and sneakers all the time when in London and have never once felt out of place whether it be at a moderately expensive restaurant or at the theatre and found plenty of people dressed exactly the same way.

You can do whatever you want in London, trust me. Thousands of other people are, and a lot of them look far worse than you even could. The only problem with jeans is, in August, it might well be too hot! Denim's been key again in London for several months now. In addition to jeans, you'll see denim skirts of every length, denim jackets, denim blazers, even denim T-shirts and bustiers. Jeans with a T-shirt or tank top, cardigan or jacket, and cool shoes are good for night in London in the summer, when it's cooler. A denim jacket or blazer or vest with T-shirt and a below-the-knee prairie type skirt or dress (no T-shirt, of course) is also a popular look of the moment. Trainers (U.S. sneakers) are good during the day, even with a denim skirt, if you have to walk a lot, but they are mostly either dark-coloured and clunky or are lgihtweight and pastelly and have whimsical motifs (like the babycham faun - a little bit too gimmicky, maybe). Of course, if you want to experiment with dressing more formally, that's fine too. As for shorts, London's sort of like New York. We try and try and try not to wear them because we know it's entirely inappropriate in the city, but one day it's too hot and you don't want to deal with a short skirt blowing up or attracting idiotic remarks so, OK, you wear shorts during the day (not at night, in the city, anyway). Assuming you're not enormously fat (sorry) you, and everyone, will live.

FYI--if you plan to go to tea at somewhere nice, they do not allow jeans. Maybe Dockers?

Hi Rachel -<BR>Take your capris, shorts & jeans but don't buy anything else now. Wait till you get to London and go shopping there - much more fun! Can anybody suggest great clothes shops for Rachel?

Teenagers in the London area like to shop in H&M, Top Shop, Dorothy Perkins, Bay Trading and New Look. You can find all of these relatively inexpensive clothes stores on Oxford Street, mostly around Oxford Circus.<BR>This summer the main fashion is floaty gypsy style tops, skirts and dresses, the shops are full of them! Loose cropped cotton trousers (especially black or beige) with embroidery around the hems are also very popular. As Chloe already mentioned, denim is very very popular at the moment, short dark blue denim jackets more than anything. They seem to be "the" must have for the under 30's.<BR><BR>You can take and wear shorts if you wish, there are always lots of tourists wearing shorts (although I can never understand why they insist on wearing them when the temperature drops to 60f.... don't they ever check the weather reports? They always look frozen. Weird!). Personally, I would never wear shorts apart from at the beach - am I the only person who freezes to death in them when I enter a heavily air-conditioned building or sit on a cold plastic seat???<BR>

This posting is here because today's society, especially in the USA but not limited to the USA, is one where increasing numbers of people cannot be bothered to do any prep work. It's a lot easier posting a banal question on this board as there are always a few people who will answer any question , nomatter how dumb.<BR><BR>People today wallow in ignorance, they're proud not to know whether bringing piles of $$$ or an ATM card to Scotland is the right thing to do. They'd rather ask if wearing jeans to London is ok rather than read up about a place beforhand. Why should they bother when some chump will tell them anyway.<BR>
