Wendy --
No, I'm the support team -- my husband is the marathoner. He's done Marine Corps, Pittsburgh (twice), Dublin last year, NYC this year. Paris, London and Athens are on our list, as soon as we can get these kids educated so we can travel more! Marathons are a great excuse to travel, though!

And again, thanks to all for such wonderful ideas. Now to figure out how much we can cram into four days and still be speaking to each other when we head home!

Harriett,
Another neat thing that he may enjoy is
Versailles. If history is his thing, this place has lots of it. The grounds may be a little less interesting in January. The tour, when I took it, goes through a lot of very decorated rooms, with OK commentary. Can't remember if they allow you to go through on your own (buy a guide book and wander).I have visited it as part of a ParisVision bus tour, and on my own by taking the train (short walk to the Chateau). Prefer the train, cheaper, and can do on my own schedule. They also occasionaly have concerts at night. Avoid weekends.
Enjoy!

I second Versailles!! and you can wander on your own. There are little films to watch about the history of it, the gardens won't be open most likely but the palace itself is amazing and definitely worth the trip-which is very easy to take on your own.Take the RER and then walk 5 minutes from the station to the palace...it is also a nice little town, maybe you could go in the morning, have lunch in town then back into Paris~C
