Hello,
Michelle: Sightseeing tours or doing it on your own ... hmm, I really don´t know. Personally, though it has the stigma of being touristy, I would go with a sightseeing tour. If you don´t, I would at least buy a guidebook. Spain has a nice train and bus system, so travelling by yourself really isn´t a problem. As far as a day trip to Paris goes, I don´t think it´s worth it. I went there by plane and stayed for about 2 days and it wasn´t enough. Mind you, it was my first time going there, but still. I imagine that the train ride there would be quite long (definitely longer than 10 hours).I don´t know about any flamenco restaurants, but basically a lot of bars around Sol are filled with students / tourists (especially on Huertas). La Comedia (hip hop), Los Gabrieles, No se lo digas a nadie (both play dance music in general) come to mind. For more bar recommendations, see some of my other posts.

Rolo: Sol is very touristy, while when I think about the area around San Bernardo touristy doesn´t come to mind. Though Sol is more or less in the center of Madrid, I personally would recommend San Bernardo (it forms part of one of my favorite areas ). You´ll still be in the middle of Madrid, but with less tourists and more of a "genuine" atmosphere (well, that´s just my own personal opinion, anyway). If you do come upon foreigners, they´ll most likely be people who work or study in Madrid.
Have fun,
Lissette
I sent you another email under a different address, but I, too, could use some hotel recommendations for Madrid, Barcelona, Granada and Seville. You seem to be so helpful to so many people. This would be for my daughter (college age) and myself. We would like to be close to metro stations and in the heart of the tourist attractions so that we can walk as much as possible.
Thank you so much for your help.

Hi Kay,
For Madrid, I would recommend the area around Sol, which is the most touristy by far. Barcelona, plaza de Cataluña (basically anything on Las Ramblas). Granada ... I was there for a couple of days, and it´s quite a small city, so I imagine that anything you pick that´s in the center will be within walking distance of major sights. From what I remember they don´t have a metro. I don´t have any particular hotels to recommend, as I´ve been in an apartment since I've been here and haven´t had anyone visiting me yet.
Lissette

Hi Lissette; I have two questions. 1. Do you know of a shuttle from the Madrid airport to Toledo? I don't want to go thru Madrid.
2. I have been looking for an easy way to get to Leon from either the airport or Madrid city without sucess.
Any thoughts? Thanks

iris: Lissette was there eleven years ago -- so long ago there was no registration so Lissette may or may not still be here but there is no screen account . . . .
(The grayed out screen name is your first hint - even w/o the dates)
Why not start a new thread w/ your questions?
