I've booked an awards trip on USAirways for May 2005 ... will they still be flying?

Thanks for the update, Sher. I really do need to watch the local news more often. I have 2 FF tickets for Pittsburgh - Grand Cayman for January 1 and am crossing my fingers. As they said late-Spring/Summer, maybe I'll be lucky.

Hi Sher. Thanks for the update, I guess whatever happens, happens.
As an eternal optimist, I still believe that some airline will try to pick up the pieces if USAirways isn't flying, and even if I can't use the miles on this particular trip, they won't be completely lost.

Grandmere. I will whine right along with you.
Two of the places we would really like to stay in require a deposit. I have already sent one by wire transfer. That was something I never had to do before. But I guess many of the Manor houses in Portugal do not use credit cards.
I have written twice to these places to try to pin down a cancellation policy. So far I cannot seem to get a reply. So I may be out the $200 plus the $27 it cost for the transfers.
Keep the fingers crossed.

I know, Sher, that's another issue for me, too, reserving places. Especially since some of the little places book early. One place said they wanted my cc # to charge 1/3 of the price, and when I emailed asking their cancellation policy, they said they wouldn't use credit card until the first of May. I've never had to use a wire transfer either, but chances of getting that $$ back seem dim.
This situation has lots of ramifications for many of us and guess there is nothing to do but wait and see how it is played out. I can't believe I was so dumb as to not only book ticket with ff miles, but to buy one outright for my husband. I just kept thinking that USAirways would not fold.
As you say, let's keep our fingers crossed!

Grandmere. Except for the ticket problem, I really do not mind paying the deposit ahead of time. The way the dollar is dropping, it really is a little hedge against inflation. Of course I have never had a problem with this up until now.
Some of these properties only have about five or six rooms. Two of the ones we want only have one apartment each.
