So- if coming from Fussen and going to Salzburg for 4 nights, when should we visit Eagle's Nest? Our last day in Salzburg, we will get up and drive straight to Munich- would it be best to visit Eagle's Nest on the way? Or as a day trip from Salzburg (is that even possible??)
Thanks!

The Eagles Nest can very easily be visited as a daytrip from Salzburg. Berchtesgaden is only about 15 miles from Salzburg, and the Eagles Nest is very easy to find once you get in Berchtesgaden. I would make a day of it and also visit the Konigssee, (in Schonau abut 3 minutes from Berchtesgaden) a stunning lake in a fjord-like setting. We took the battery-operated boat out to St. Bartholomew and were just mesmerized by the sheer beauty of our surroundings. The old center of Berchtesgaden is also a fun place to stroll and grab lunch.

Bertschesgaden also has a great salt-mine tour that you will enjoy.
