Also should I purchase the mountain railway tickets beforehand or on day of travel>
No need to IME - not sure there are even reserved seats except for groups- I've never had a problem - certainly for Wengen or Grindelwald no problem-just like a regular train - hop on
You could ask about Jungfraujoch reservations at stations but coming back you do not know how long you will be at the top - you can walk to a glacier- do some kind of swing line, etc - have a meal - sit on the sun terrace, etc.

Beware when boarding the train to Lauterbrunnen (for Wengen) at Interlaken-Ost- the train to Lauterbrunnen is hooked together with the train to Grindelwald - one locomotive carries both as a whole to Zweilutschine where the train splits - one half trundling up the Grindelwald valley and the other half over to the Lauterbrunnen valley.
Be sure to look at where each train car is going before boarding - they should be clearly labeled inside and out- I always have seen several folks in the wrong half and are told by the conductor to change at Zweilutschinen
Zweilütschinen

You could also visit Bern on May 23rd as you will have to change trains there when you travel from Zurich to Interlaken.
There are luggage lockers at the railway station and the historic city center begins just in front of the railway station.

For Grindelwald, Murren and Jungfraujoch,I will get 25% off with Swiss Travel Pass>
To be clear 100% covered to Grindelwald and Murren and Wengen -above Grindelwald and Wengen to Jungfraujoch you get 25 % off.
I would only purchase Wengen or Grindelwald to Jungfraujoch tickets as others are 100% covered and it is a waste of time and maybe impossible to make reservations on those or to Murren.
