Thanks for your input. When we were in BO we stayed in Wengen and LOVED it, but we had rail passes, the kids will be traveling by car and would not want the extra expense of traintickets to Wengen twice a day. So..I will urge them to investigate Grindelwald. Yes, it has prettier vistas, but the prices seem a bit higher. They have 9 months so should be able to have lots of choices. Other than Grindelwald any other location that you would suggest?

by car you have only Grindlewald and Lauterbrunnen - and Murren, Wengen and Gimmelwald are the only other possibles and cannot be reached by car - with car I suggest Grindelwald for the views.
BTW I was asking OP why Lauterbrunnen mainly as they are going by train.

We were in Lauterbrunnen in May 2012 and LOVED it. This year when I saw our apartment available again in December I jumped on it and booked it. Had I been a tad bit less trigger happy I would have come on Fodors and researched before booking it. I didn't know that Lauterbrunnen may not be the best choice for wintertime travel.
Nevertheless, I'm excited to go back. It's a great price, the owners are being very accommodating, and it's familiar. We'll make the most of the sunny hours. Plus we plan on going higher up during the days anyhow. Sledging, ice skating, exploring, and lots of hot cocoa.
Let me find a link to the apartment and I'll post it.
