Itinerary drive & stay
OK, i've gone through the basic's just curious to know if this sounds like a good plan or not.
Dublin all day 1 night half day
Louth early evening, 1 night leave early B & B voucher
Now this is the revision: I have 3 remaining B & B vouchers. Was thinking about going to Westport from Louth, travel time 4 hours. I was going to spend a night there. Then move on to Galway and stay 2 night there.
What I'm now thinking is drive from Louth to Galway, (only 3 hour travel time)
and stay 3 nights in Galway, head north a day, south a day. this works for me seeing the Landmarks that were on my list of things to see. And the 3rd day could be a "do what i missed" or just wing it. Having a 3 day base does seem appealing, somewhere to just leave your suitcases and "stuff".
Check into Dromland Castle, Ventures Unknow..as of now.
Shannon airport in the morning.

I think that should work. Travel time Dundalk-Galway is a little more than 3 hours. In best conditions, I'd give it 3.5 hours; traffic problems could well add another half-hour or more. [But you were never going to make it to Westport in 4 hours. I know the roads, and I'd expect to take well over five hours - and it's a tiring drive.]
There is a nice bonus available between Dublin and Galway, if your schedule permits: Clonmacnoise monastic site. Worth adding 90 minutes to your time allowance.

I like going to Westport. It's not that far from Galway and you will experience a different kind of town. I might though, spend two nights there and one in Galway because, as Padraig says, it's more than 4 hours.

Thanks for the input. See I'm still on the fence. Well this is a surprise trip for my husband so maybe I'll just let him decide. My original plan was 2 Westport 1 Galway, and with the drive and the days being shorter..UGH,you see my dilema. I'll be happy just being in Ireland!!!. Oh and he'll be driving..lol
