Italy two week itinerary help
Traveling to Italy with husband and teenage son next summer (late June and early July). Would appreciate any comments or suggestions on the following itinerary:
Day 1 - Land in Rome.
Day 2 - Car and driver for sightseeing
Day 3 - Vatican
Day 4 - Go To Florence on Eurostar
DaY 5 - Florence
Day 6 - Day trip siena
Day 7 - Milan on Eurostar. Rent car in Milan and drive to Bellagio or Varenna
Day 8-9 - Lake Como
Day 10 - Drive to Venice
Day 11-12 Venice
Day 13 - Fly home from Venice
I could add one extra day to this itinerary. Not sure where. I don't want to spend more time in Rome. My husband and son aren't big on art museums. They do like scenery and the Alps. Any comments will be appreciated

Don't hire a car and driver in Rome. The traffic is horrendous, a lot of the sights are down small alleyways inasccessible to cars & you'd be much better walking and/or taking the open top bus tour. Since you are doing the Vatican on a separate day, I'd suggest that on the non-Vatican day you just walk, since the other main sights are all quite close together.
From Venice, for an extra day, you could drive up towards the Alps. Bassano del Grappa is nice.

Hi BG,
I also suggest not hiring a car in Rome.
If you have an extra day, i suggest adding it to Florence. There is more to the town than museums.

Hi Boston,
I think your itinerary sounds great, although I don't think you need a car at all for this trip. You can easily go from Milan to Varrena and take the ferries around Lake Como.
If you can add a day, adding it to Rome, Florence or Venice will do nicely. Or, for a change of pace, how about spending a night in Orvieto on the way to Florence? Easy to do by train. It's a very interesting town.
Buon viaggio!
