Hi KMS and Bluebird,
I want to try to answer your questions. First, our room at Amorosa was booked as a suite. It was the only room available when I made the reservation. I was a little concerned when they told me that the bedroom and bathroom were not on the same floor, but it was a really wonderful room. The food at Amorosa really was not great. My duck was tough and chewy and my finacee said his lamb was the same. It was pretty comparable in price to La Chiusa. Chiusa may have been a little more expensive, but worth it in my opinion. Our experience at the Amorosa restaurant may have been a fluke because I have heard others who have had great meals there. The one thing I will say is that their dining room is very beautiful and romantic. It is in what used to be the stables which were converted to a restaurant. So, in all, I would probably give it a shot, especially if you don't feel like leaving the hotel for dinner. Driving around those parts after dark can be a little daunting because some of the roads are narrow and winding.
I am not sure if La Chiusa is reachable by train. As far as I know, the closest station would be in Sinalunga which is about 15 mi. away. I would guess that it would be better to arrive by car, especially if you want to see anything else in the area, which you most likely will. It would be hard to visit that area without one.
Hope that helps.
