zeppole, I didn't mean to say anything against Camogli. I've been there only once, but I liked it. I just meant to give the right proportions of size.

I didn't take it amiss! I was just trying to delineate the differences between Ponza and Camogli, and the similarities. I read the article Jean liked to, and one point it made is that if "your idea of fun is reading the International Herald Tribune over your coffee in the morning", Ponza is not that. I actually *like* reading the IHT (or the Financial Times) while sipping my espresso outdoors in Camogli.

I don't thing Camogli is "too" touristy -- but without the tourist trade, the local fishing and merchant community would be struggling more than it is to survive. Eight months out of the year, Camogli is just half fishing village and half Genovese bedroom community. For four months in summer, visitors overwhelm the town -- and we are happy to share.

Just to confue you even more:

Take a look at Ischia, too. The island has a very good bus network.

I am looking into the Cilento myself for an upcoming trip, but judging from my own research, that is not an area that you would want to visit without your own car...

I am curious if anyone here has personal experience of Corsica. In my reading it sounds appealingly isolated and looks beautiful but I don't know anyone who has been.

I love the sea, but in high summer I would choose Lake Como. The experience of the ferry is unbeatable IMO.
