Italy to France car hire

Hi

I'm looking to get a car at Lake Orta in Italy and drive from there to Villefranche in France. All hire companies I've found are very dear (I'm guessing because of the pickup and drop off being in different countries) - anyone got any ideas on how to get cost down?

Thanks

Martin

Hi

Just to update - I'm happy to look into 2 seperate car hires - 1 in Italy and 1 in France but am not too sure about trains etc to get from one to the other. For example - where to drop car and get train from/to.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Martin

Hi C,

Look upi the route at www.viamichelin.com and see where you cross the border.

Train schedules and prices are at www.voyages-sncf.com

Hi

Thought I had this worked out but the place I want to get the train from in Italy doesn't have a car hire drop off point. So - wondering about this. What about dropping the car in San Remo and then getting a taxi/private car to take us to Menton over the border?
Anyone know of any companies which would do this?

Thanks

Martin

You can take a train from San Remo to Menton. You can display a schedule for this routing at: http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html. Several trains listed take just 45 minutes for the trip.
