Hi there,
can any one help me with a price? I would like to know how much it would cost to take the local train from Bolzano to Chiusa return on a Saturday. Tried looking on the Trenitalia website but couldn't get a price. I know that there are usually local deals. There are 3 of us, if it makes a difference.
I couldn't find a hotel in Chiusa so now we are deciding if we should stay in Bolzano and do a day trip to Chiusa.

I tried using www.italiarail.com which I fine much easier to use than the Trenitalia site but I could not get it to price this itinerary.

If it's a regional train then it's a flat fee with no savings for buying tickets in advance - just buy locally - regional trains are dirt cheap. Trains leave twice an hour and take 24 minutes - no reason to buy ahead - no savings and again just a few euros flat fee.

BTW the station name is Chiusa-Lausen - is that the right station?

It doesn't matter most likely as it will be an R train. R trains don't have discounted tickets although there is some talk they might start offering some. The price for Bolzano/Chiusa is 4.50€ one way. There is also frequent bus service between those cities (bus #221) which might be a euro or so cheaper.

A Value Card is available for the area. You evidently buy the card either in 10€, 25€ or 50€ amounts and use it for transport which gives you a discount (the 4.50€ ride above would be 3.30€ with the Value Card. It would not be valid on any faster Trenitalia trains (IC) or EN trains. I'm not sure you can share the pass(probably) so you would have to check it out.

There's also the mobil card (with or without museums). You might not get the value of a mobile card unless you are taking multiple trips in a day or longer distances.

Thanks for all the replies. Just needed a rough guide cos if it was expensive, then I would have thought twice about staying in Bozen. Looks like it'll be ok. Molto Grazie!
