Italy Itinerary Help
I will be travelling to italy between May 2nd thru May 8th. I need some help finalizing the itinerary.
Between May 2nd and May 5th we will be staying close to Montepulciano and will be visiting places around there.
May 6th thru May 8th we will be staying closer to florence.
We would like to see Pisa and Florence during that time.
We will be travelling with a 15 month old , so will try to keep the museum trips to very low.
So far i have the following
Sunday May 6th Florence (Walk around to get a feel, David)
Monday May 7th Pisa (Me and my wife go up the tower while in-laws spend time with their grandson)
Tuesday May 8th Chianti Area
My question is whether we can do florence on a Sunday. Will it be crowded?
Can i also get some recommendation to a wine tour on the chianti area?

The places you are visiting are going to be very crowded every day. There is really nothing you can do about that. You need to make a reservation if you want to avoid waiting on a long line to see Michaelangelo's David.
You might find that touring the cathedral in Pisa and the other monuments in the complex is more interesting than climbing the tower. Even just looking at the tower is more interesting than climbing it -- and you should probably buy an advance ticket if you do want to climb it.

My Girlfriends and I were in Florence this past fall and our favorite day was the day spent with Rebecca Christopherson on her tour. we did not do the Chianti tour (though she does offer this) we did the Brunello di Montalcino tour. She is wonderful as is her tour please check out at http://www.tuscan-wine-tours.com

The historic center of Florence is relatively compact, so any good tour book will give you a walking tour that has the highlights. If you are especially interested in gardens, you should make a point to visit the Boboli Gardens across the river. If you have different special interest -- like sculpture, or jewelry, or monastaries, or shopping -- you can make a point of visiting the sculpture museum, or the Arno Bridge for jewelry, or Museo San Marco to see the monk's cells painted by Fra Angelico or the San Lorenzo market. If you like views, cross the river and walk up the hill to Piazzelle Michaelangelo or take a 10 minute bus ride to Fiesole. Firenze has many unique offerings. A good guide book will explain what's available. There is more to see than you can do in a day, so you might enjoy focusing on what most interests you personally.

ss944-If you go late in the day to the Galleria dell'Accademia to see David, you won't have a line-and you won't have to make reservations. A friend and I went one time in the middle of May around 5pm (it closes at 18:50pm) and we had the galleria practically to ourselves. I've done this in May and there. Just don't go on a Monday, because it's closed then.
