Italy in September or October

Hi

Does anyone know when it's generally nicer to travel to Italy? October is cheaper - but I'd rather pay more and go in September if the weather will be better. I would like to go when it's nice & sunny - does it rain a lot in October?

Thanks

We went to Italy in 2004 from Oct 1-Oct 17 and it was beautfiul. We started in Venice and ended up in the south so that we could maximize our nice weather. It was very nice, but starting to feel like fall towards the end.

You should check out weather.com to find the average temps where you're interested in travel.

I always go the end of Sept. beginning of Oct. and in 2001 it was hot!, in 2002 it was warm and gorgeous, in 2004, it was warm during the day, coolish in the evenings and in 2005 it was cold and rainy. Last year it was hot during the day and perfect in the evening, just a lightweight sweater was needed.

We were in Venice, Florence and Rome Oct. 1-16,2006. The weather was in the mid 70's.We had one day of rain Florence and that day we spent in various museums. We plan on going back the same time period in 2008.

You don't say where in Italy you are going, but last early October in Venice was beautiful! The weather was in the mid to high 70's, even at night it was warm.

But I have a feeling that no one can really predict the weather, so go when it's most convenient and cheaper isn't bad either!

We were in Italy [Ravenna, Perugia and Rome] last year in early October, for eight days, flying out on the afternoon of the 13th. It was beautiful: the first afternoon/evening in Perugia it was wet, but the rest of the time it was warm with mostly cloudless blue skies. In Rome it was as hot as I would have wished it, especially in the Forum and on the Palatine. I've been in Rome throughout October before and enjoyed the weather - perhaps the best month of all for Rome, but maybe I've just been lucky! [Also if September is more crowded which I guess it is, I would definitely choose October.]

We went to Rome and Florence in November 2005, and had gorgeous, perfect weather the entire time. It was pretty warm, and we just needed a light sweater or jacket some of the days. It was sunny and did not rain at all the entire time.
