Italy in 8 Days

Need some advice. Wife and I will be in Italy for 8 days near the end of April. Is that a good time to go? Also, is it a good idea to arrive in Rome and depart in Milan?
Do we need to rent a car? Was planning on taking the train to Florence and Venice. Are those worth visting in our 8 days.

Thanks!

In my personal opinion I would only try to do two cities in 8 days. However, if you feel this is a one and only trip, you can probably plan on more.

I think the end of April is a fine time to go, but the cities would depend on your interests and what you really want to see while you are there.

Italy will be gorgeous in April! However, I would not try to do the big 3 in that amount of time and definitely forget about Milan. I would do Rome and Tuscany, personally. 4 nights in Rome, 2 in some small place in Tuscany (like Pienza) and then 2 in Florence. You could also do something like 3 nights in Venice and 5 nights in Tuscany (split between Florence and elsewhere in Tuscany).

OU, I'm heading over the last weekend in April until May 8th. We are flying into Rome and out of Venice. We've booked two nights in Rome, driving to Tuscany for three nights, dropping off the car in Florence, staying 1 night, and training to Venice for two nights. If you want to see more of the country, it might be better to fly into one city and out of another, although I would skip Milan.

Good luck, Aim

Hi OU,

With only 8 days I would fly into Florence and out of Venice.

4 nights Florence (one daytrip to Siena), 3 nights Venice.

Good morning OU Chot would totally agree with Ira, take Florence and Venice and save Rome for the next trip and you have more time to spend there.
Richard of LaGrange Park,IL Use rail between Firenze and Venice....
