Italy - help on hotel suggestions
This is a repost for advice. Has anyone heard of these hotels. Any advice? I've searched the sites but there are so many places, they are not all listed. We are going in November.
Venice - La Locandiera or Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo (one is two minutes from San Marco - is that too close considering the possibility of flooding)
Rome - Daphne Inn
If you have any other suggestions that would be great. We are looking for under $200 with private bath and not a long hike up to the room.
Thanks.

Plug the names of the hotels (separately) into the heading of a new thread and, if there are reviews, they'll pop up. (I know there have been lots and lots of recommendations for Al Ponte Mocenigo).
Also, go to www.slowtrav.com and find reviews there, as well.

Daphne Veneto is a great place, assuming you like the style of a small, personalized hotel. (There is also a Daphne Trevi which I haven't stayed at.) There are lots of plusses and a few quirks. Plusses: nice bathrooms, nice mattresses, a small, empty fridge for your drinks, etc, an electronic in-room safe, friendly helpful staff who seem to enjoy answering questions, helping you plan your itinerary, walks, restaurant choices. The location was also very convenient, near restaurants, the Metro stop and 10-15 minutes from the Trevi Fountain. The quirks to consider: No TV in the room in case you're in the habit of catching CNN, no room phone but you get a cell which they train you to use in the event you wish to, small elevator which requires you close multiple doors before it can be used (or called by another party), also the staff is not 24/7 (they leave in the early evening),

Highly recommend La Locandiera in Venice. Very close to everything, on a small square around the corner from St Marks. Hard to find initially, but once you find it, it becomes home. Has a small elevator. Nice breakfast buffet. My sister & I had a room on the 2nd floor, with one double bed and one single bed. Marble bathroom with shower. All very nice and sparkling clean.
