Italy - CAR RENTALS - Please help

Hi All,
I am coming with my family of 5 people we land in FCO (Rome) and want to leave to Fote Dei Marmi for 5 days. We want to rent a car in the airport and then drop it off in the train station in Rome. Does anyone know any good cheap websites for automatic cars..
Thank you!

Automatic cars are never cheap. That said, I and loads of other Fodorites like AutoEurope and Kemwel. And if you use their European websites you can sometimes get a better price than on the US one.

I hope the driver can sleep on the flight--or maybe you are flying within Europe. Whatever, that is a long drive after a flight. Forget any bargains for automatics---you will pay a real premium in that size category.

I hate to be critical, but your trip seems to have some holes.

StCirq and bob are right. You cannot rent an automatic cheaply.

And, beware driving that far after getting off the plane jet-lagged! Our Son-in-law scoffed when we warned him about that but he nearly fell asleep four times on our four-hour drive to Carrara from Milan. Even with several espressos. Scared me to death!!

What the others said.
In addition, do you really want/need to drive into Rome? I would plan to drop the car at a smaller city outside of Rome or at FCO airport and take the train into the city. Traffic is crazy in Rome, IMHO.

I agree...I would never try to drive in Rome, and I have excellent experience driving in Manhattan and LA. Plus we've driven all over the countryside in Italy, France, Spain and South Africa. (on the wrong side of the street in SA!) It's a piece of cake compared to Rome.
